Tommy Hood Owner & Head Instructor
Tommy Hood is owner and head instructor of Carolina Karate & Fitness Center.
- 6th Degree Black Belt
- 10 Time National Champion
- 3 Time USOC Athlete of the Year
- Former Head Coach of US National Karate Team
- US National Karate team for 14 years
He lives in Greenville, SC with his wife Elizabeth, son Caleb and daughter Olivia. As a member of the US National Karate team for 14 years he has traveled around the world competing at the highest level. Since retiring from competition Sensei Hood now coaches for the USA National Karate Federation sanctioned by the USOC. Even with his incredible qualifications and passion for his sport, it is the kids that he really loves.
While he expects his students to do their best to learn the art and science of Karate, he places even more emphasis on them learning positive character values, leadership skills and good sportsmanship. The respect he demonstrates and expects from his students carries over to the classroom. He gets to know his kids on a one on one basis, taking the time each class to talk to them and ask about their day. With a good sense of humor, Sensei will frequently gather the kids around to talk about rules of life and have the kids to repeat such mantras as “Don’t Lie, Don’t Cheat, Don’t Steal and Never hang around people who do”. Parents refer to him as much more than an instructor to their children.
